On October 22, a container ship “ZIMKINGSTON” under ZIM encountered bad weather, which caused more than 100 container cargoes to fall into the sea and several containers caught fire. On November 3, the owner of ZIM announced the general average of the fire accident of the “ZIMKINGSTON” container ship.
On November 7, the cabin of “MSCShannon” caught fire about 11 nautical miles south of Jussarö, a small island near the mouth of the Gulf of Finland. However, when the rescue team arrived, the crew of “MSCShannon” stated that they had managed to control the fire and did not cause any casualties.
According to a report by the Russian authorities, in the early hours of November 9th, 0602LT (UTC+10), a Panamanian-flagged container ship “RISESHINE” was on its way to Ningbo Port, China. Orient Bay to the west is stranded. In the subsequent rescue, the ship broke in two.
Some sellers said: “I feel suffocated when I see this information. While worrying about the crew, I quickly check whether my cargo is still safe. I checked it and I’m fine for the time being, otherwise it’s suffocated again. This year’s peak season will follow. It’s the same as in the false peak season. Not to mention the high shipping costs and frequent delays. Ask the freight forwarder to make all sorts of dodges. Now there are various accidents, I really don’t know when it’s headed.”
It is reported that, on average, more than 1,500 containers are lost in the sea every year, but most sellers refuse to purchase insurance in order to save costs. In fact, buying insurance is an investment, with meager expenditures, but huge value. Because no one can guarantee that there will be no accidents in their goods, once an accident occurs, if there is no insurance, all the sellers will bear huge losses.
It is understood that in the third quarter of 2021 alone, US$5 million worth of cargo theft occurred at US West Coast ports, and US$45 million worth of cargo was stolen.
If there is no insurance, then the seller will bear the loss. Some sellers said that if the goods are stolen, looking for all parties is either to shirk their responsibilities, or to pay three times the freight, but the value of the goods far exceeds this. In order to be at ease, you still have to buy logistics insurance, at least someone will deal with it, and the compensation is better than three times the freight.
